At the start where the king sat on the throne, he looked like a pouting child that refuses to accept something 😂

₵ⱠØɄĐ © • 2 years ago

Meruem's narcissistic, but it's by all means natural BECAUSE he has no equal. Seeing how he now encountered, not an equal, but a superior being in another area, makes him deep down furious because he can't tolerate the fact that he's losing. At the same time though, he's learning more about human nature.

Well he was just born, not so long ago so basically he's a child only lol.

The start of Pouf's jealously towards the innocent girl who the King gives more attention to.

Blaise • 1 month ago

He's not really jealous of the attention being spent elsewhere. He was ready to die a quiet and ignoble death for the sake of his king's honor over a single gungi game; whether the king pays attention to Shaiapouf is completely trivial in comparison. He doesn't care about getting attention.

In reality, Shaiapouf is upset that Komugi is undermining his vision of a perfect king by controlling his actions and presenting an insurmountable challenge. The king's obsession to defeat her has replaced his normal duties, meaning the perfect king is currently subordinated to her presence.

This is what Shaiapouf cannot tolerate. He serves the image of a perfect king. That image is threatened when the king's daily agenda is being swayed by another entity. When he lost his arm, this circumstance even led to bodily damage and the king self admitting his own shortcoming, a grievous trespass against his own perfection wrought by Komugi, even if inadvertently. This is what vexes Shaiapouf. His image of a perfect king is being assaulted and eroded in front of his eyes.

Unfortunately for Shaiapouf, his role wholly devotes him to existing beneath his king. In order to correct course on Komugi, he'd have to go against the king's will. A king whose servant defies his authority would also undermine Shaiapouf's vision of a perfect king. Furthermore, the loss of Komugi would mean the king would have to live the rest of his life with the shame of having encountered an obstacle he was never able to defeat.

It's all futile for Shaiapouf. Removing Komugi would engrave 2 permanent defeats on the king for all eternity: that he does not control his servants and that he lost in a competition of intelligence. The perfect king would irrevocably no longer be perfect; any future interaction could be liable to invite doubt whether such a defeat might occur again, however slim the chances. Shaiapouf has no way out here to preserve the immaculate king. This is why he silently frets on the sideline.

Ironically, the king is in a similar position of being bound by his role. He knows he is a perfect king, and that is the role he must live by. Yet he is losing to Komugi. Even if it's only gungi, he is losing. To make matters worse, outside of gungi, Komugi may very well be the most pathetic sentient animal imaginable, adding to the humiliation that the king should be helpless against such an inferior existence in any activity. Thus, the king is similarly vexed as Shaiapouf. He wants to focus on ruling, to live up to his ideal of a perfect king, but to abandon the contest against Komugi would be to admit defeat and shatter his image of perfection.

Each character is shackled by their perceived hierarchical roles and most of all pride in adhering to these roles without exception. The knotted entanglement of ego and honor and social hierarchies feels very Japanese to me, but I love how it drives the plot and character development here.

Is it ok for me to like skip the parts where the king is playing the board game? Or should I be on the lookout for some kinda important hint they might mention coz frankly, I find it boring to just watch them go along playing a game I know nothing about and not interested in

Shadman20073 • 2 years ago

dont skip the playing parts its crucial for the character development of the King and that game "gungi" doesnt even exists in real life so u are not the only one who knows nothing about that game

JukeOfAllTrades • 2 years ago

I dont want to watch it tho (┬┬﹏┬┬)

potato floating • 2 years ago

if you dont want to watch the part you can skip it

Abhinav Neoharys Varma • 2 years ago

Just read quick summary, the board game part was important for his character development

Fruity • 2 years ago

the boardgame parts is pretty much the only parts where komugi is shown and she helps the king be more humane and their love story is blossomed through gungi... when they die in each others arms its truly worth watching the character developement and touching areas.

₵ⱠØɄĐ © • 2 years ago

Don't skip it because they represent how Meruem thinks in general. He takes a more logical approach towards his battles because he likes strategy. He's very intelligent and as such, it's important to know how Meruem reacts when his strategies fail. Also, his interactions with the girl are very important. Furthermore, all of his practice with this girl will be relevant in a future fight, believe it or not.

Mayu • 2 years ago

Wait who is maruem again :D??? Is it the king?

₵ⱠØɄĐ © • 2 years ago

Yeah, it's the King. It's not a spoiler because his mother mentioned it a few episodes ago, so bear that in mind.

Yato's<3rayoflight • 2 years ago

bruh watch dragon ball z or smthng like that if u want continuous action. the board game parts are the real deal here lmao are u srs. weww. the king's change will come through that
